11. ABDOMEN- PLAIN XRAY
a quick, first-line imaging test used to visualize the internal organs of the abdomen. It is primarily used in emergency settings to investigate acute stomach pain, diagnose bowel obstructions or perforations, find swallowed foreign objects, and check for kidney or bladder stones. INDICATIONS-- Bowel Obstructions: Detects trapped gas, dilated bowel loops, and severe constipation. Perforations: Identifies free air in the abdominal cavity, which can indicate a tear in the stomach or intestines. Calculi: Visualizes calcifications in the urinary system (kidneys, ureters, and bladder), sometimes referred to as a KUB X-ray. Foreign Bodies: Locates objects that have been accidentally or intentionally swallowed.
