5. ABDOMEN -BARIUM MEAL 2
Procedure Preparation: You will need to fast (no eating or drinking) for at least 6–8 hours before the test. The Test: You will drink a contrast solution (barium sulfate). The radiologist will use a fluoroscope (a real-time X-ray machine) to watch the barium move down your throat and through your stomach. You may also be given fizzy granules to swallow, which create gas in your stomach to inflate it for better visibility. Imaging: You will be asked to move into various positions (lying down, standing up, turning side-to-side) to ensure all areas are thoroughly coated and imaged. The scan typically takes 30 to 45 minutes.
